Kirk Ferentz provides more in-depth report on injury to Iowa QB Spencer Petras

During Iowa’s 17-12 win over Northwestern, backup quarterback Alex Padilla came off the bench to lead the Hawkeyes to their first win since topping No. 23 Penn State in early October.
Hawkeyes starting QB Spencer Petras started, but was limited by a shoulder injury he suffered during Iowa’s 27-7 loss to Wisconsin the week before. Padilla came in after the third series, and led the Hawkeyes offense to consecutive touchdown drives.
This week, Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz announced that Padilla will be behind center when Iowa takes on Minnesota. Petras is not listed on the depth chart, and will not be available against the Gophers.
Ferentz added that Petras can’t throw the ball effectively right now. He can play, medically speaking, but his shoulder injury isn’t allowing him to get enough zip on the ball.

Padilla finished Saturday’s game with the Wildcats with 172 yards on 18-for-28 passing.
Iowa and Minnesota will square off for the Floyd of Rosedale Trophy in Iowa City on Saturday, Nov. 13 in the Hawkeyes first home game since Oct. 13. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 PM at Kinnick Stadium.
