East Lansing has never had a Heisman Trophy winner.

But it’s looking good for Kenneth Walker III. The most recent odds of Heisman favorites from Circa Sports have the Michigan State running back just behind Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, who is the favorite. Also representing the B1G in the top 3 is Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud.

Walker III made a statement from his first play from scrimmage in a Spartans uniform. The Wake Forest transfer broke for a 75-yard touchdown run in the season opener with Northwestern. Despite the Michigan State loss to Purdue last week, Walker III rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown and averaged 6.2 yards per carry.

Despite suffering from shoulder issues since training camp, Stroud has been impressive for the Buckeyes in 2021. The freshman QB has thrown for 2,675 yards and 25 touchdowns, and has just five interceptions on the season after Saturday’s win at Nebraska. Against the Huskers he threw the ball 54 times, converting 36-of-54 pass attempts and finishing with 405 total yards.

The Heisman Trophy ceremony will take place at the ESPN Studios in Bristol, Connecticut on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 7:00 PM.
