There’s a big one in Happy Valley on Saturday.
While Penn State isn’t exactly in position to claim a B1G East crown, James Franklin’s team can play spoiler to No. 6 Michigan, which still has conference title hopes and College Football Playoff aspirations. It’s an interesting mid-November matchup in the B1G.
Saturday morning, the College GameDay crew talked about Saturday’s matchup in Beaver Stadium. Both Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard agreed that atmosphere could be an issue in the contest.
They also talked about quarterback play for both teams.
“Cade McNamara is the focus for me,” Herbstreit said. “Cade McNamara with Jim Harbaugh, I’m sure they’ve focused on communication. They’re gonna do the very best job they can not letting the crowd become a factor. (Penn State’s) defense is one of the more complete defenses in the B1G.”
Howard isn’t putting quite as much stock into the atmosphere because of the kickoff time. He is interested to see how Michigan’s defense handles Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford, though.
“Since it’s not the White Out, it’s a little different atmosphere,” Howard said. “Noon kick, I don’t think (Michigan) is going to have an issue with the crowd noise. Defensively, they’re going to have to keep an eye on Sean Clifford and keep him in check.”
Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET with the game airing on ABC.
