Award season is finally here at the end of the college football season as we get closer and closer to December. The Frank Broyles Award for top assistant coach in the country has announced its finalists for the award.

Here are the finalists for the award:

  • Jeff Grimes OC/QB coach Baylor
  • Jim Knowles DC Oklahoma State
  • Dan Lanning DC/ OLB coach Georgia
  • Josh Gattis  OC/ WR coach Michigan
  • Warren Ruggerio OC/QB coach Wake Forest

The only coach to make the finalist list from the B1G is Michigan OC/WRs coach Josh Gattis. People could argue that another coach on Michigan should have been a finalist, DC Mike Macdonald. Another coach from the B1G you could potentially throw in is Iowa’s, DC Phil Parker.

Josh Gattis is extremely deserving of the award as Michigan as an explosive ground and pound attack that led them to an 11-1 season and 8-1 B1G record and has vaulted them into the B1G Championship Game. They also beat Ohio State for the first time in 8 years on that ground and pound attack behind RB Hassan Haskins 5 touchdowns.

Michigan plays No. 16 Iowa in the B1G Championship Game at 8:00 ET on FOX.
