Virginia’s Bronco Mendenhall shocks college football world with unexpected decision

There is now another opening in college football as the coaching carousel continues to be wild.
Virginia head coach Bronco Mendenhall has resigned after being the head coach in Charlottesville for the last six seasons.

In the press release, Virginia Athletics Director Carla Williams thanked Mendenhall for everything he did for the program these last six years.
“It has been a privilege to have Bronco Mendenhall direct the Virginia football team over the past six seasons,” said Virginia athletics director Carla Williams. “He has done an exceptional job of not just transforming the program, but elevating the expectations for the program. He has established the necessary foundation to propel our football team upward. He is more than a football coach and the impact he has had on these young men will be a positive influence for the rest of their lives.”
Mendenhall took the Cavaliers to the ACC Championship Game in 2019 after they finally took down rival Virginia Tech. It was their first win over the Hokies since 2003.
He finishes his tenure with a 36-38 overall record.
