Ohio State is reportedly backing out of the recruitment of LSU transfer and former 5-star defensive backs Eli Ricks. 247Sports reported the news on Tuesday morning.
Per the report, there are concerns in Columbus that if the Buckeyes add Ricks multiple players currently in the defensive back room would hit the transfer portal. For that reason, Ryan Day and his staff are backing off.
“Something would have to change,” for Ohio State to reconsider Ricks, according to the report.
Ricks entered the transfer portal after LSU and head coach Ed Orgeron decided to part ways. A former 5-star recruit, Ricks would add immediate skill and depth to Ohio State’s secondary, which needs some significant help after struggling during the 2021 season.
In an effort to keep several current defensive backs in Columbus, the Buckeyes are going to stop pursuing Ricks.
Now that Ohio State is out of the running, 247Sports is reporting that USC, Alabama and Georgia are the 3 programs most-likely to land the former 5-star product.
