Maryland starting TE Chigoziem Okonkwo makes decision on 2022 NFL Draft

Maryland Tight End Chioziem Okonkwo has decided if he’s going to be coming to College Park next season.

The senior TE announced that he will be leaving Maryland for the 2022 NFL Draft instead of coming back for one more season on Tuesday from his Twitter account. He had 433 yards receiving with 5 touchdowns in 2021 for the Terrapins.

Here’s what he had to say to the Maryland faithful:

“These past 4 years in College Park have been nothing but special,” said Okonkwo. “I have met unbelievable people and have made memories that will last a lifetime. I would like to thank all of the staff that I had the opportunity to be around and learn from for the past 4 years. I will always cherish the smiles and fun times we had.

“Thank you to all of the fans supported this journey for the past 4 years. Than you for sticking with us as we built this program up through the years. Lastly, I want to hank my brothers that I have played with in my time at Maryland. All of the trials and tribulations we went throng created a bond that can never be broken.

“We’ve built something special that is trending in the right direction. Thank you guys for bringing the best out of me every day. After prayers and discussing my future with my family I have decided the Pinstripe Bowl will be my last game as a Term. I’m exited for my next chapter in life and am officially declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft. Thank you College Park!”

Okonkwo and the 6-6 Terps will play 6-6 Virginia Tech in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium on Dec. 29 at 2:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.
