Pitt OC unexpectedly resigns before Peach Bowl matchup vs. Michigan State

The Pittsburgh Panthers will have a different offensive coordinator calling plays for the Peach Bowl.
The Panthers OC Mark Whipple resigned on Tuesday afternoon, and won’t coach during the Michigan State game on December 30th.
Under Whipple, the Panthers averaged 504.3 yards a game which was the 2nd-most in the ACC. Johnny McGonigal of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette broke the news.

This came as a surprise to many Pittsburgh fans, but Andrew Fillipponi of the 937 The Fan in Pittsburgh says that the decision is family related per a source.

We’ll see how the Pittsburgh offense looks without Whipple calling the plays. No. 12 Pittsburgh (11-2) and No. 10 Michigan State (10-2) meet in the Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
