Josh Gattis releases statement after capturing Broyles Award

Tuesday turned into a big day for Josh Gattis and Michigan football.
Already announced as a finalist for the Frank Broyles Award, Gattis took home the honor as the top assistant coach in college football this season. He beat out Baylor OC Jeff Grimes, Oklahoma State DC Jim Knowles, Georgia DC Dan Lanning, and Wake Forest OC Warren Ruggiero for the award.
Tuesday evening, Gattis reacted to the honor with a note on social media. Gattis thanked head coach Jim Harbaugh “for believing & growing me!” He also gave a shout-out to Jay Harbaugh, Mike Macdonald, and, of course, the players.

Gattis originally came to Michigan as the OC/WRs coach in 2019 after stops at Alabama, Penn State, and Vanderbilt, among others. He guided the Wolverine offense to 37.7 points per game with a balanced attack that averaged 451.9 yards of offense.
After wins over Ohio State and taking down Iowa in the B1G Championship Game, Michigan will take on Georgia in the College Football Playoff on New Year’s Eve.
