Former Nebraska RBs coach lands new gig with FCS program

Former Nebraska running backs coach Ryan Held has landed on his feet before the new year.
On Tuesday morning, North Alabama announced that it has hired Held to be the team’s associate head coach and offensive coordinator. Held was one of four staff members let go by head coach Scott Frost late in the 2021 season as the Huskers finished with a 3-9 record.
North Alabama released a statement on Held’s hiring.
“We wanted to take our time with these hires and go through the process, and by doing that we identified a lot of very qualified candidates,” Norh Alabama head coach Chris Willis said.
“Ryan has worn a lot of different hats during his career, from the junior college to FBS levels. He has also been a head coach, called plays, and is a highly regarded recruiter,” Willis added. “He fits our staff, where our guys don’t just coach a position but fill a lot of different roles. He has been there and done that. He is someone we feel we can turn the offense over to and know he can do that.”
Held was on Frost’s staff for six seasons, dating back to UCF. He’s also been a head coach at Peru State, Oklahoma Panhandle State and Southwestern Oklahoma State.
Held was a former player at Nebraska from 1993-96.
