Purdue may not be adding the kind of depth to the running back room it had previously expected.
Mike Carmin of the Journal & Courier reported on Monday that former Cal running back Christopher Brooks is no longer committed to Purdue. He had originally given a verbal pledge to the Boilermakers on Dec. 15.
Brooks’ commitment was a huge addition for Purdue, as the running back room has struggled with production in the Jeff Brohm era. That’s also a result of some suspect offensive line play and a scheme that favors a strong passing attack.

Brooks rushed for 607 yards and 4 touchdowns during the 2021 season for the Bears. He also had 131 yards and 3 scores on 19 catches.
Purdue’s rushing attack ranked last in the B1G for a third-straight season. The Boilers averaged just 83.3 yards per game on the ground and exceeded the 100-yard mark just 3 times during the 2021 campaign.
The last time Purdue averaged more than 100 yards per game on the ground was in 2018.
