There’s still a little bit of mystery surrounding the status of defensive back Dax Hill as Michigan prepares for its Orange Bowl showdown against Georgia, but it doesn’t sound too good right now.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh provided a status update on Hill while meeting with reporters on Thursday. As of the presser, the first-team All-B1G DB was not in Florida with the team, though is status is considered questionable for Friday’s matchup.
“He is not currently in Florida,” Harbaugh said, per Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News. “He’s not right now. He might be. He could be here today. Maybe not.”
Asked Harbaugh to clarify Dax Hill current status in terms of whether he is in Florida: "He is not currently in Florida. "He's not right now. He might be. He could be here today, maybe not."

Hill was a an All-B1G first-team selection following the 2021 regular season. He finished with 65 tackles, ranking second on the team during a 12-1 run. The defensive back also broke up 8 passes, collected 4.5 tackles for loss and had 2 interceptions.
It’s unclear why Hill did not make the trip to Miami with the team.
Michigan’s defense has been one of the most dominant in college football throughout the season. Heisman Trophy finalist Aidan Hutchinson played a big role in that, but so did Hill’s presence in the secondary. An absence would be a huge blow for the Wolverines.
