Ohio State came away with the win in the Rose Bowl in dramatic fashion but the Buckeyes lost one player to a serious injury during the game. Safety Lathan Ransom was injured on a kickoff and had to be carted off the field with an aircast on his leg.

Ransom was swiftly transported to a local hospital for x-rays, and the extent of his injury was revealed after the game. According to Nathan Baird with Cleveland.com, defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs revealed after the game that Ransom will need surgery for a fracture. That surgery and injury will keep Ransom sidelined during the spring.

“He will not be around for the spring but he’ll be back for the fall,” Coombs said. “That’s what’s important.”

Ransom was a key contributor, finishing the year 7th on the team with 38 tackles and recording 5 passes defended. Hopefully he is back to full strength and ready to go to open the 2022 season.
