The most recent controversy over the past couple of years regarding bowl season is players opting out of the bowl games.
On College GameDay on New Year’s Day, the GameDay crew talked about this generation of players and players opting out of bowl games. ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit said that this generation of players “doesn’t love football.”
While Herbstreit did get some backlash on Twitter, ESPN anchor Rece Davis thought the backlash went too far and defended his colleague on The ESPN College Football podcast.

While Herbstreit was wrong when making that statement and broad generalization, I also like that Rece Davis stood up for his colleague. Herbstreit is one of the many ambassadors of college football, and one of the college football analysts seems like he is not doing his job for just a paycheck but the love of the game.
You can be upset with Herbstreit’s comments and take it as an old man yelling at the cloud argument and at the same time respect and understand why his colleague stood up for him after the backlash and heat went too far online.
