The Music City Bowl thriller between Purdue and Tennessee was the most-watched bowl game outside of the New Year’s Six games this postseason. The official Twitter account of the bowl game tweeted out the numbers this week.

Purdue defeated Tennessee 48-45 in an overtime thriller that saw an offensive explosion in the fourth quarter. The two teams traded punches down the stretch, providing fans with one of the most entertaining games of the bowl season.

According to the tweet, the Music City Bowl netted a rating of 5.594 million viewers during the game, which was the highest-rated non-New Year’s Six bowl game of the postseason.

8.9 million viewers tuned in for the last 15 minutes of the game, as well.

Per the Music City Bowl, this year’s version was the fourth-most watch game in the history of the event. Not a bad way to close out the season for the Boilermakers and Volunteers.

So much for the idea of “meaningless” bowl games, right?
