Kerry Coombs releases statement after not being retained by Ohio State

Kerry Coombs’ long-time tenure in Columbus is coming to end with the news after the season ended that he was not being retained by the Buckeyes.

Coombs originally came to Ohio State as CBs coach on Urban Meyer’s staff in 2012. He left following the 2017 season for a two-year stint in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans.

Following the departure of Jeff Hafley after the 2019 season, Ohio State brought Coombs back to the Buckeyes as the DC and CBs coach under Ryan Day. Though Ohio State would make the national championship, the Buckeye defense was shredded by Alabama. After more struggles to begin the 2021 season, Day shook up the defensive staff and rearranged the playcalling duties.

Now, Coombs is moving on and he released a statement on Saturday reflecting on his time at Ohio State:

“As I prepare for the next mission in my life, I want to thank Buckeye Nation for allowing my family and me to share in some truly incredible experiences,” said Coombs via his statement. “I remain most grateful for the family of extraordinary young men I have been privileged to serve, as well as the men I have worked alongside.”
