On Thursday, Michigan State LB Ma’a Gaoteote confirmed this week’s reports that he has entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal.

While some players withdraw from the portal and rejoin the team, Gaoteote appears set on transferring from MSU. He tweeted a farewell note to his Spartan family:

“It has been an honor to wear the coveted green and white, as a Michigan State Spartan!

“This has been the toughest decision I’ve ever had to make, but I believe it is the right choice for my future.

“Thank you Coach Tuck, Coach Hazelton, Coach Els and the entire staff for the opportunity to play the game that I love at MSU. I’m forever grateful.

“Thank you Spartan Nation for showing me love from day one. East Lansing is truly a special place! SD4L! GO GREEN!

“To my brothers – I LOVE YOU ALL!!!”

A former 4-star recruit, Gaoteote signed with MSU over USC, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Oregon, San Diego State, Utah and Washington. This season, he recorded 7 tackles, a pass breakup and a forced fumble.
