ACC head basketball coach fired midway through 4th season

Chris Mack’s tenure at Louisville has come to an end.
Yahoo’s Pat Forde reported on Tuesday that there was growing speculation that Mack’s time at Louisville could be nearing the buzzer and it proved to be true on Wednesday. In the middle of his fourth season, Mack and the university reached a separation agreement, ending his coaching run with the Cardinals.
Mack met with reporters after a decision had been made on his future. He said repeatedly he’s not bitter about the decision and did not respond to a question about whether or not he deserved more time with the program.

Mack’s Louisville teams were 68-37 with one NCAA Tournament appearance. Last year, the Cardinals finished the pandemic-shortened season with a 13-7 record. Currently, Louisville is 11-9 on the season.
The school has not yet released an official statement. It is assumed Mike Pegues will be the team’s interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
