Make that another National Signing Day surprise for DJ Durkin.

Hours after he flipped a Virginia Tech commit, Maryland pulled another rabbit out of its hat.

The Terps got a surprise commitment from four-star running back Cordarrian Richardson, who didn’t even include Maryland among his finalists.

He made that announcement with a Bleacher Report video:

Richardson is the No. 10 running back and the No. 160 prospect overall in the 2017 class. The Memphis native had visited the likes of Michigan State, Ole Miss, Rutgers and UCF leading up to signing day.

But instead, Richardson will join a loaded backfield.

The Terps already got a commitment from four-star all-purpose back Anthony McFarland, who is the top-rated recruit in Maryland’s 2017 class. Maryland will have a crowded backfield with the likes of talented underclassmen Ty Johnson and Lorenzo Harrison.

According to Rivals, it will be an “uphill battle” for Richardson to qualify academically.

Maryland’s 2017 class is now up to seven four-star recruits.
