Illini QB commit Dwayne Lawson won’t sign on National Signing Day due to grades

The Illini are going to have to wait a little bit longer before they’re able to sign one of their top recruits for the 2017 class.
Quarterback Dwayne Lawson was expected to sign with Illinois on Wednesday, but it was reported by the Chicago-Tribune that he’s still working on improving his grades and his signing date has been placed on hold.
Lawson’s coach at Garden City Community College (Kansas), Jeff Sims, told the Chicago-Tribune:
He is going to Illinois but we are waiting to finalize some grades.
Sims went on to say that Sims would sign by the summer as long as everything worked out with his grades.
Lawson was formerly a quarterback at Virginia Tech and was a four-star prospect coming out of high school.
He’s currently a three-star prospect per 247 Sports after playing in a backup role at Garden City, completing 22-of-41 passes for 354 yards and two TDs.
Lawson’s teammate at Garden City, Del’Shawn Phillips, has already enrolled at Illinois.
