College GameDay is a major part of a fall Saturday. ESPN’s popular pregame show, which has been running for three decades, has become one of the most recognizable shows associated with college football in the country.

One of the reasons for the show’s rise to success is the commentary provided by Kirk Herbstreit. He, along with Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, David Pollack and others, provide great commentary on the sport.

Recently, Herbstreit made an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. When asked what makes College GameDay so special, Herbstreit mentioned numerous things.

“Lee Corso, I want to say he’ll be 87 years old [next season] – I believe. His birthday is August 7,” Herbstreit said. “What’s great about college GameDay, and it’ll be 27 years next year for me, is it never gets old. Like, the stories constantly change. Players are constantly moving – and now with the portal they’re leaving and going to different schools. So, it’s not like you’re covering the same story over and over and over. For me, I love that. I love how it changes.

“The one thing that remains the same is the passion is there every single week – no matter where you go. I don’t take that for granted at all covering that sport.”

GameDay provides a unique experience for fans, as well. The traveling pregame show was really the first of its kind, allowing fans the opportunity to feel like they’re part of the show and experience.
