Tom Crean’s situation at Georgia just got messier thanks to Zoom.

On Saturday, Georgia lost to Ole Miss, falling to 6-21. Crean was asked about assistant coach Wade Mason being suspended for a physical altercation with another staffer. In his press conference, Crean declined further comment. After the press conference, however, Crean’s Zoom was left on. He could be heard blaming a graduate assistant for leaking the news, according to Jordan D. Hill of Dawgs247:

“There’s no question we’re concerned in there that our GA really — Rashaan [Surles] exposed it,” Crean said. “He’d have to have it organized, man. Somebody’s organized the whole thing. Somebody has. There ain’t no way that guy got some of the player’s numbers. Well, we’ve just got to keep figuring out what we’re going to do next.”

Crean wasn’t done speaking candidly to an unidentified woman. He offered some criticism of Aaron Cook, a transfer from Gonzaga:

“Aaron is just a — Aaron’s not close to as good as he thinks he is, and every time there’s a problem he wears down,” Crean said. “Like I said — I said, ‘If you played with as much edge as you’re talking to me right now, you wouldn’t be having any issues at all.’ But I said, ‘But you’re not going to talk like that, OK? You can play like that, but you’re not going to talk like that.’”

It’s not a good look for Crean after Georgia issued a statement Saturday in response to a report that the coach’s firing could be imminent. It’s hard to see the former Indiana head coach at UGA beyond the end of the 2021-22 season.
