The MAC is asking the NCAA to consider a proposal that would allow teams at the FBS level to participate in joint practices during fall camp. The news was reported by Bryan Fischer of Athlon Sports.

According to the report, the MAC is prepared to ask the organization to consider that proposal for the upcoming 2022 fall camp season. Joint practices are something that occur at the NFL level but do not in the college ranks.

“Student-athletes in many sports other than football have an opportunity to test themselves and measure their preparation by facing an opponent in scrimmages or exhibitions,” the proposal states. “A joint practice with another institution during the preseason would allow football student-athletes an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming season.”

This would be a major change to the practice routine at the college level, but one that might prove beneficial to several programs. Having the opportunity to practice against or hold a scrimmage with another team could serve as a semi-exhibition contest before the season kicks off.

The MAC is asking for the proposal within the current rules and guidelines of the FBS fall camp practice structure.
