Purdue's Zach Edey on close losses: 'It's got to start rolling our way eventually'
The broken-hearted emoji might be the perfect image to sum up Purdue’s season — at least when it comes to its 6 losses. It’s somewhat remarkable how unlucky the Boilermakers have been in some of the biggest games of the year.
Purdue was bitten again on Tuesday night, falling on a last-second 3-point shot for the second game in a row. It marked the fourth time this season the Boilers have been beaten on a late basket.
In addition to Tyson Walker’s 3-pointer at Michigan State and Chucky Hepburn’s for Wisconsin on Tuesday, the Boilermakers also lost on a half-court heave from Rutgers’ Ron Harper Jr. in December and a late triple from Indiana’s Rob Phinisee in January.
Following another gut-wrenching loss — one that eliminated Purdue from a B1G regular season title — center Zach Edey talked about how frustrating those losses have been.
“It’s got to start rolling our way eventually,” Edey said following the loss. “It’s getting ridiculous — they bank in two shots at the end. One is a 3, it’s so far off that it went in. We work ourselves to get back in the game and that’s how the game ends? It’s really frustrating.”

Purdue dropped to 24-6 with Tuesday night’s loss and 13-6 in the B1G. Despite entering the season as the most talented team in the conference, Matt Painter’s squad will not claim a regular season title.
The Boilermakers are hoping the string of bad luck starts to turn now that March has arrived.
