College basketball legend Dick Vitale has provided a positive update on his health status. He is now cancer free.
On Tuesday, Vitale was told by his medical team that his PET scans came back clean and no cancer is showing. He had a six-month battle with the disease. He underwent chemotherapy and recently had surgery on his vocal cords.
“OMG ALL THE PRAYERS many of u have sent have been answered as DR Brown who heads my cancer TEAM called & said PET SCAN came back that NO CANCER is showing,” Vitale wrote on Twitter. “I feel like a coach playing for the Final 4 has a PTPer hit a shot at buzzer. My MARCH MADNESS starts with a W baby!”

Vitale stepped away from calling basketball games earlier this season to focus on his health. After having surgery on his vocal cords, he was told to take time to rest and recover.
Vitale has been one of the greatest ambassadors to college basketball behind the microphone for decades. Tuesday’s report hopefully means he’ll be back in arenas and calling games again soon.
