If you’re a fan of basketball being played in the paint, the first half of the Purdue-Michigan State semifinal matchup is the game to watch. The big men were getting involved early in Indianapolis.
Purdue’s Zach Edey and Trevion Williams and Michigan State’s Marcus Bingham Jr. all played well through the first 20 minutes of Saturday’s B1G Tournament showdown. Edey ended the half with 9 points and 6 rebounds while Bingham also had 9 points and grabbed 3 boards.
Williams scored 7 points and collected 3 rebounds off the bench fort the Boilermakers. Purdue took a 27-20 lead into halftime.
Neither team shot particularly well from behind the 3-point line. Purdue was just 3-of-14 while Michigan State connected on only 1-of-12 attempts. Both squads are also shooting below 35%.
It’s been a rock fight at Gainbridge Fieldhouse between the Boilermakers and Spartans. There will probably be more of the same in the second half.
The winner of the Purdue-Michigan State game will advance to play Iowa in the B1G Tournament championship. The Hawkeyes defeated the Hoosiers 80-77.
