Tom Izzo has been coaching long enough to recognize a team capable of reaching the Final Four when he sees it. On Saturday, he saw that ability in Purdue.

Michigan State dropped a 75-70 game to Purdue in the B1G Tournament semifinals on Saturday, falling a game short of playing for the tournament championship. The Spartans put up a strong fight, but the Boilermakers made too many plays down the stretch.

After the game, Izzo was complimentary of Matt Painter’s team, saying Purdue “has a chance to make a serious run” in the NCAA Tournament, per Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press.

Purdue has been a Top 10 team all season long and a favorite to reach this year’s Final Four. The Boilermakers currently sit at 27-6, finishing No. 3 in the B1G standings.

The Boilers reached the B1G Tournament championship game by defeating Penn State in the quarterfinals and Michigan State in the semifinal round. They’ll play Iowa for the tournament title on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

Winning the B1G Tournament would be a huge boost for the Boilermakers heading into March Madness and could potentially help with their seed on Selection Sunday.
