Casey Thompson may have just made the ultimate recruiting pitch for Nebraska while talking with Will Compton and Taylor Lewan on an episode of Bussin’ with the Boys.

Head coach Scott Frost and his staff had one of the splashiest pick-ups from the transfer portal, landing the former Texas starter. He’s No. 1 on the depth chart at quarterback this spring and will likely be the Huskers’ starter come August, when Nebraska opens the season against Northwestern in Ireland.

But Thompson talked about some of the off-field stuff regarding his arrival in Lincoln. That includes NIL opportunities available to student-athletes.

A lot of ears perked up when Thompson mentioned the difference between the opportunities at Nebraska compared to Texas. And it might just be the best recruiting pitch for the Huskers.

“First off, when I first got here they told me — like 17 or 18 different football players had vehicles. That’s unheard of,” Thompsons said on the podcast. “At Texas it was me, Bijan Robinson and one defensive starter — like 3 guys.

“Nebraska athletics, there’s like 70 or 80 people across all sports that have either an apartment or a car or they’re getting NIL deals. … You’re gonna make six figures. If you’re a starter here on the football team, you can make over six figures.”

That’s going to be appealing to a lot of high school football recruits. And, if Nebraska is really that opportunistic across all sports, it’ll help other sports, as well.

Thompson may also be hurting the outlook for Texas on the recruiting front with those comments. Then again, the program isn’t exactly strapped for cash.
