Darrell Hazell is reportedly going back to his roots. Sort of.

According to Sporting News’ Alex Marvez, the former Purdue coach will be the Minnesota Vikings’ next wide receivers coach.

Hazell was fired after a 3-3 start to his fourth year in West Lafayette. He was 9-33 overall and 3-24 in B1G play in his four years leading Purdue.

As a receivers coach, Hazell will be back in his element. He coached the receivers at Ohio State, Rutgers, Army, Western Michigan and Eastern Illinois.

This would be Hazell’s first NFL gig. He would take over a group of receivers led by former Maryland star Stefon Diggs.

The 52-year-old head coach was ultimately replaced by Jeff Brohm, who came to Purdue from Western Kentucky.
