Ohio State men’s basketball is losing another men’s basketball assistant, and this time it’s reportedly to a program within the Big Ten.
Tony Skinn is set to join new Maryland coach Kevin Willard’s staff, according to reports from 247Sports. The 2 coaches worked together at Seton Hall before Skinn joined the Ohio State staff. This followed assistant Ryan Pedon leaving to be the head coach at Illinois State.
Skinn is a Takoma Park, Maryland native, and worked with Willard for 3 seasons at Seton Hall.
Skinn starred at George Mason, and was on the 2006 Final Four team. He’s known as a rising young assistant with a knack for recruiting, player development and relationship-building.
“Tony comes highly recommended from every level – NBA, college, AAU and high school,” Buckeyes coach Chris Holtmann said last year after hiring him. “Tony was an outstanding player on a Final Four team, and as a professional,” “He has developed a reputation in his coaching career as being a tremendous worker, he’s detailed oriented, builds excellent relationships with players and is an outstanding recruiter. He has strong ties in the DC Metro area and has worked with some highly successful high school, AAU and college programs.”
Skinn has also worked at Louisiana Tech, and with a local AAU team, so he has the makings of local connections on the grassroots level.
