Well, after producing one of the worst college football seasons of the year in 2021, Vanderbilt somehow found a way to make it worse. Some teams haven’t even started spring ball yet and the Commodores are already losing the offseason.
This week, Vanderbilt revealed that it would be moving away from the “Star V” logo and adopting a new look for its university and the athletic department.
Here’s the video:

The new logo … is a “V.” That’s the “rebrand” the school has decided on and a lot of fans aren’t happy about it. Here is just some of the reaction to the new logo:
Vanderbilt's new logo
people who work for Vandy: wow, a stellar reminder of our new vision and new identity, truly we've done it again
everyone else: hey what the fuck this sucks pic.twitter.com/s6zbOwGveZ

I don’t think I am exaggerating when I say Vanderbilt’s logo was the best thing about Vanderbilt athletics and they got rid of it https://t.co/LTKkoJJDsC

Today's NIT Quarterfinal between Xavier and Vanderbilt just got a lot more interesting. pic.twitter.com/kEc00E9Rv3

New Vanderbilt logo looks like the History Channel and Virginia logo had a child. pic.twitter.com/LSqvjpjFx3

Honestly, if you had given me this picture a month ago and asked me to determine what team this is, I don’t think Vanderbilt would be my first guess
Or my second. Or even my third. pic.twitter.com/uozaJJz4gf

We need to start a petition and ask Vanderbilt to go back to the former logos. The new logo is just awful.

Get the fanbase excited and rallying behind the both basketball teams. So the university goes and rolls out a new logo that nobody asked for and will hate.
The most Vanderbilt thing ever.

Not to be dramatic but the Vanderbilt visual rebrand announcement just ruined my day

RIP to Vanderbilt's "Star V" logo, which will be replaced by the "Goofy Block V" starting in 2023 https://t.co/6mbdw4GfOO pic.twitter.com/zns386kzCy

I cannot get over how terrible Vanderbilt's rebrand is. Somebody got paid a massive sum of money to make all of Vandy's stuff way worse! pic.twitter.com/WEqvqPG8PB

Okay but where have we seen the new Vanderbilt logo before? pic.twitter.com/bIKRs19FF7

So, despite Vanderbilt’s good intentions, the new look isn’t getting much love. Maybe it will grow on people over time — but right now, a lot of fans want the old “Star V” logo back immediately.
