The Memphis men’s basketball program and head coach Penny Hardaway are in hot water with the NCAA.

According to a report from The Daily Memphian, Memphis was slapped with 7 total violations and Hardaway allegedly committed one Level I infraction and two Level II infractions. The school received a Notice of Allegations (NOA) from the NCAA.

Per the report, here are some of the alleged violations committed by the program, from 247Sports:

  • Failing to respond within 30 days to the Complex Case Unit’s (CCU) request for documents and text messages among the Memphis coaching staff.
  • Stripping the metadata from emails, preventing the CCU from conducting a thorough investigation.
  • Obstructing the investigation by delaying interviews and allegedly scheduling prep interviews with Memphis administrators ahead of a CCU interview.
  • Failing to report acts of non-compliance within 30 days.

Hardaway is also accused of failing to implement a culture of compliance within the Memphis basketball program.

Hardaway is in fourth season with the Tigers. Over that span, the team has posted an 85-43 record with 2 NIT appearances and a berth in the NCAA Tournament this year. Memphis advanced to the Round of 32.

Memphis has hit a 20-win total every year under Hardaway’s guidance.
