Mark Whipple’s knowledge and experience appears to be rubbing off on his players at Nebraska. After just a few spring practices, wide receiver Oliver Martin has learned a lot from the new offensive coordinator.

On Wednesday, Martin met with reporters as the Huskers continue to work through spring ball. A veteran receiver, Martin was asked about what he’s taken away from Whipple’s offensive mindset.

It’s going to keep defenses guessing.

“He’s got a really wide variety of pass concepts to attack different coverages and holes in coverages,” Martin said, per Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald. “So it feels like he’s got an answer to everything.”

That’s a great sign for a Nebraska offense that has sputtered through the previous four years of the Scott Frost era.

Whipple was brought to Lincoln after helping Pitt’s offense to flourish in 2021. The Panthers won an ACC title and quarterback Kenny Pickett was a Heisman Trophy finalist under Whipple’s offensive guidance.

Whipple has only been in Lincoln for a short time. There’s still a lot for the Huskers to learn to close out spring ball and move forward into fall camp. The change of pace should be an added benefit for Nebraska heading into 2022, though.
