Just a few days after the conclusion of spring football, Ohio State is losing a defensive lineman to the NCAA transfer portal.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel is reporting that Jacolbe Cowan has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal to explore his options. The Buckeyes closed out spring with their annual spring game on Saturday.

Cowan saw limited playing time during his two seasons in Columbus. He was a 4-star member of Ohio State’s 2020 recruiting class. During the 2021 season, he was credited with 3 tackles, including a pair of solo stops for the Buckeyes.

Cowan played in 3 games for Ohio State last season, recording a tackle in each. He did not play during the 2020 campaign. Because of the COVID-19 waiver and playing less than 4 games in 2021, the 6-foot-4, 280-pound lineman has all four years of eligibility remaining.

As a high school prospect, Cowan was ranked as one of the Top 200 overall players of the cycle. He held offers from nearly 40 programs, committing to Ohio State over other bluebloods like Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State and others.
