Kirk Herbstreit won’t be joining his ESPN colleagues in Las Vegas for the 2022 NFL Draft.
Herbstreit shared a video message Monday on Twitter announcing that doctors discovered a blood clot in his system. The ESPN analyst says he feels fine, but will not travel to Las Vegas out of an abundance of caution.
“Unfortunately, I will not be able to come out to Vegas and be a part of this year’s coverage,” Herbstreit said. “Doctors have recently found a blood clot in my system. Very fortunate to have really good doctors who I trust. I feel good. But, out of an abundance of caution, I think I’m just going to take a step back from this year’s draft coverage. We still have a great team out in Vegas with ABC and ESPN. Unfortunately, I just won’t be with them at this year’s event.”
Hey guys-wanted to update you on my situation this week. Unfortunately I won’t be part of our ESPN/ABC NFL Draft coverage. Our team in Vegas will have it covered, and I will be watching.
Congrats to all the players! I love this event and look forward to returning next year. pic.twitter.com/UvBsI3TaUV

In recent years, ESPN/ABC has featured Herbstreit and the rest of the ESPN “College GameDay” crew in its multi-network NFL Draft coverage. The 2022 NFL Draft begins with Round 1 on Thursday.
Hopefully, Herbstreit gets the OK from his doctors to return to coverage soon.
