One of the additions Nebraska made through the transfer portal during the offseason isn’t going to work out.
Tuesday afternoon, former Texas A&M running back Deondre Jackson announced on Twitter that he “will not be attending Nebraska anymore.” No reason was provided behind his announcement. Jackson did thank Husker fans for welcoming him into the program.
After committing through the transfer portal, Jackson did not enroll at Nebraska for spring football but was expected to join the program for summer workouts. Now it appears he’ll be looking for another school.
No I will not be attending Nebraska anymore but thanks to all the fans for welcoming me!

Jackson is a former 3-star recruit from the 2020 class. He had nearly two dozen offers as the nation’s No. 56 running back prospect in the cycle. He picked Texas A&M over multiple power programs.
In two seasons at Texas A&M, Jackson saw limited time on the field. He played in 1 game as a true freshman in 2020 and appeared in 4 contests during the 2021 campaign. He totaled 3 carries for 13 yards.
Because of the COVID-19 waiver and his redshirt stats, the running back still has all four years of eligibility to use.
Nebraska is still in solid shape in the running back room. The Huskers return Rahmir Johnson, Jaquez Yant, Markese Stepp and Gabe Ervin and added Anthony Grant via transfer. There are still plenty of backfield options for the Huskers entering the 2022 season.
