2022 NFL Draft: Ohio State’s Chris Olave lands with New Orleans Saints in 1st round
Another Ohio State wide receiver has been selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Chris Olave heard his name called on Thursday night, second to his former teammate Garrett Wilson.
Olave was taken by the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night with the No. 11 overall pick. He came off the board just one pick after Wilson went No. 10 overall to the New York Jets.
Olave was a record-setting receiver at Ohio State during his four seasons with the program. He set the program record for career touchdown receptions, hauling in 35 touchdown catches while in Columbus.
He’s hoping to catch plenty more in the NFL.
Last season, Olave ended the season with 936 yards and 13 touchdowns on 65 catches during an 11-2 campaign for the Buckeyes. Statistically, it was the most productive year of his college career.
Olave had the opportunity to declare for the 2021 NFL Draft after totaling 50 catches for 729 yards and 7 touchdowns during Ohio State’s 2020 campaign, which resulted in an appearance in the National Championship Game. However, the receiver opted to return for one more year to improve his draft stock.
The pay-off was being a first-round selection in this year’s draft.
Olave ended his career at Ohio State with 2,702 yards and 35 touchdowns on 175 catches. He’s known for his ability to create separation from the defender and is an excellent route-runner.
