Scott Frost says Nebraska focusing on ‘tweaks,’ not ‘drastic changes’ for 2022 season

Look at the record and it’ll indicate major changes need to take place at Nebraska in order for it to get to a level where it’s competing for B1G West titles. Watch the tape and you might come away with a different conclusion.
The Huskers concluded the 2021 campaign with a 3-9 record, keeping the team out of a bowl game for a fifth-straight season. Eight of those losses came by one possession and all nine were decided by single digits.
Scott Frost knew he had to make some changes after another disappointing year. He restructured his offensive staff, hit the transfer portal hard and things are starting to look a little more optimistic in Lincoln.
But Frost doesn’t believe the changes made have been “drastic,” nor do they need to be. With a team that was so competitive in every game last fall, it’s just a matter of a few alterations.
“If you believe you’re doing things the right way – which we do – I think drastic changes are a mistake,” Frost said during a radio show, per the Omaha World-Herald. “Tweaks are what you need. Not being stuck in your ways, but looking for ways to improve, ways to do things a little bit different.
“We can’t change the basis of what we do and how we do it – because I’ve seen it work before, it has worked, it will work, it does work. Particularly as close as we were in almost every game last year, we’re always looking for one little way to get that much better. Major, drastic changes probably aren’t what you need.”
In the offseason, Frost hired Mark Whipple away from Pitt to be the team’s new offensive coordinator. Mickey Joseph is the new wide receivers coach, Donovan Raiola is running the offensive line and Bryan Applewhite is in charge of running backs.
Most importantly, though, Nebraska now has a dedicated special teams coordinator — Bill Busch.
Frost has compiled just a 15-29 record in his first four seasons in Lincoln, never finishing above .500 and having yet to play in a bowl game. It’s a trend the Huskers are hoping to change in 2022.
