Aidan Hutchinson got compared to a certain NFL player by the Lions GM Brad Holmes per Daniel Bates of The Spun. Holmes appeared on the ‘Rich Eisen Show’ on Friday.
Holmes stated that Hutchinson reminds him of former Virginia pass rusher Chris Long. Long was also taken with the 2nd overall pick back in 2008. Long played for St. Louis Rams (2008-2015), New England Patriots (2016), and Philadelphia Eagles (2017-2018). Holmes was with the Rams in various executive roles from 2003 to 2020.
Here’s what Holmes had to say about his comparison:
“When I first saw him, he reminded me of Chris Long with the Rams a little bit,” said Holmes. “Ya know back when we drafted Chris Long. The reason why that was such an interesting comparison was because back in 2008, we ran a 4-man front team defense. We had to project him as an edge guy. Fast forward to Aidan and we’re like this guy could really be a 5-technique guy. Then you see him the next season and he just shows a whole new toolbox.”

That’s some high praise from Holmes.
