Ex-Nebraska punter, long-time Baltimore Raven announces retirement

Baltimore Ravens and former Nebraska punter Sam Koch has announced that he will retiring from football on Thursday. He attended Seward High School, and played for the Cornhuskers from 2001 to 2005.
After his time at Nebraska, Koch was selected by the Ravens in the 6th round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He spent his entire NFL career in Baltimore from 2006-2021. Koch averaged 45 yards per punt, with a career long 74-yard punt during his NFL career.

Here’s what Koch had to say about his decision:
“There’s so many people you want to talk about,” said Koch. “I’m just a kid from a small town called Ulysses, Nebraska. Being able to wear that helmet, wear that jersey. I wanted to come in and I wanted represent the name on the front of that jersey and the back of that jersey for myself, but more importantly my family. To have somebody that can look at and say, that was my dad, my husband, and son means the world to me. Today I’m officially announcing my retirement as an NFL player.”
