As teams battle it out to build their 2023 recruiting classes, Wisconsin landed one prospect out of B1G country.

On Thursday, defensive lineman Roderick “Trey” Pierce out of Illinois announced his commitment to the Badgers. He held other offers out of the B1G from Illinois, Minnesota and Purdue, as well as Power 5 offers from Duke, Iowa State, Kentucky and Missouri, among others.

“Thank you to my Brother Rice family and community including my teammates, teachers, alumni, staff, trainers and coaches for encouragement,” Pierce wrote in his announcement on Twitter. “I am very grateful to announce that I have given my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at the University of Wisconsin! Go Badgers!”

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 290 lbs., Pierce has gone unranked by the composite rankings. 247 Sports ranks Pierce as a 3-star prospect and the No. 23 player out of Illinois for 2023.
