Juwan Howard reportedly won’t be leaving Ann Arbor for Los Angeles. The Michigan head coach recently declined a Los Angeles Lakers overture on the franchise’s head coaching job, according to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

Howard would have been reuniting with LeBron James, his former teammate. Howard played his final NBA seasons in Miami from 2010-to-2013. The Heat, led by James and Dwyane Wade, won NBA championships in 2012 and ’13. Howard was also a Heat assistant from 2013-to-2019. The 2013-14 season was James’ last with the Heat.

Howard has been Michigan’s head coach since the 2019-20 season. The Wolverines have made the NCAA Tournament both times under Howard. U-M reached the Elite Eight in 2021 and the Sweet 16 this year. Michigan is 61-32 overall under Howard.
