The Los Angeles Lakers have a vacancy at head coach, and it was reported that Juwan Howard was drawing interest from the Lakers for filling that role. Fortunately for Michigan, Howard has reportedly declined interest in the role and will stay in Ann Arbor.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Los Angeles never made a formal offer to Howard for the role. However, the Lakers “would’ve moved quickly to that stage” if there had been mutual interest.
The interest from Los Angeles was understandable with Howard having played alongside Lakers GM Rob Pelinka and star forward Lebron James during Howard’s career in the NBA. According to Wojnarowski, part of Howard’s reasoning for staying in Ann Arbor is the opportunity to coach both his sons, Jace and Jett, during the 2022-23 season.
Jace is entering his junior season with the program with 25 appearances in his college career while Jett joins the program as a 4-star prospect via the 2022 recruiting class.
