Purdue 7-foot-4 center Zach Edey has agreed to be a member of Canada Basketball’s summer core roster and the Senior Men’s National Team. He is the only collegiate player to commit to join the country’s roster.

Edey is one of 14 players who have agreed to representing Canada between now and the 2024 Olympic Games, located in Paris. Each player committed to a three-year agreement with the Senior Men’s National Team.

Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse already has major praise for the 7-foot-4 center.

“He was a pretty big priority,” Nurse said, per YardBarker. “Every now and then you run into one of these international teams that’ll just run three, one 7-footer after one 7-footer, or just rotate three of them the whole game and use the rim protection and physicality and those kinds of things. And we just thought that every time we see Zach he’s a problem for, well, when we’re scrimmaging against him he’s a problem for us on the floor and practices and things, and he’s a problem for other teams.”

Edey was a problem in the B1G during last season, averaging 14.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game for the Boilermakers. He didn’t take long to announce his return to Purdue for the 2022-23 campaign.

During his first two years in West Lafayette, Edey has played in 65 games and made 35 starts. He’s averaging 11.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest, while also blocking 1.2 shots. The rising junior has posted 12 career double-doubles, 11 of which came last year.
