One week ago, Ohio State and Ryan Day agreed to a 2-year contract extension to keep him in Columbus through the 2028 season. Wednesday, the head coach commented on the new deal.
Along with the 2-year extension, Day received a pay increase and will now earn a salary of $9.5 million per year. It’s nearly a $2 million increase from his previous income.
“This is obviously a wonderful place and I want to be here as long as I possibly can,” Day said on 97.1 The Fan’s Morning Juice. “Our family loves Columbus. We were just blessed and thankful for making something like this possible.”

Day’s extension comes after 3 outstanding seasons with the Buckeyes. Ohio State has claimed a pair of B1G titles and made two College Football Playoff appearances under Day, who was named the full-time head coach after the 2018 season, replacing Urban Meyer.
In his 3 years at Ohio State (plus a 3-game stint as the interim head coach in 2018), the Buckeyes have posted a 34-4 record, which includes a 23-1 mark against B1G foes. He was also named the B1G Coach of the Year in 2019, his first season one the job.
Ohio State will look to return to the top of the B1G standings in 2022. The Buckeyes open the year at home in a colossal matchup against Notre Dame.
