May has been a busy month for Northwestern on the recruiting front. On Saturday, the Wildcats added another commitment to the 2023 class, this time from a 4-star defensive back.

Damon Walters, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound safety out of Bolingbrook, Ill., verbally committed to Pat Fitzgerald and Northwestern on Saturday. He’s the highest-rated player to give a pledge to the Wildcats for the 2023 cycle.

Walters made his announcement with a post on Twitter. He gives Northwestern its 15th commitment of the cycle. Eight of those players have made their announcement in May.

Walters is ranked as the No. 353 overall prospect in the 2023 class, earning a 4-star rating from 247Sports. He’s also the No. 31 safety and a Top 10 player from Illinois.

Walters had more than 20 offers on the recruiting front. He picked Northwestern over Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Penn State and Wisconsin out of the B1G. Several other Power 5 programs extended an offer, as well.

Because of Northwestern’s activeness through the month of May, it currently owns the nation’s No. 7 class, per 247Sports. The Wildcats also sit No. 3 in the B1G, behind only Penn State and Ohio State.
