Friday night football in the B1G hasn’t started yet, and there’s already some second thoughts.

The conference was originally planning on having six Friday night games this fall. After Northwestern resisted, the B1G pushed back the Wildcats’ two Friday night games, which pushed that number down to four.

Apparently the B1G will have even fewer Friday night games beyond 2017. According to ESPN, the B1G is likely to have two or three Friday night games after opening weekend in the future.

From ESPN:

A conference official told ESPN on Monday that moving forward, the league is likely to scale back even further to two or three Friday night games after the opening week per year.

That would match the total Friday night games for 2017. After opening weekend, there are only two Friday night games scheduled for this year.

That news doesn’t come as a surprise after several teams publicly opposed the new idea. Not only did teams oppose it, but Friday night football received criticism from high school programs and fans.

There could still be several weekday games to start the season. There are four B1G teams that will open their seasons on Thursday or Friday.

Still, it doesn’t look like Friday night football will become the norm the way it is in the ACC and Pac-12.
