Maryland baseball saw its magical season come to an end on Monday night with an 11-8 loss to UConn in the regional final.
Amazingly, it was the program’s best record in a season in the 131 years of the program, as the Terapins finished 48-14. Maryland captured the Big Ten Championship, its first conference title in more than a half-century and the Terps hosted an NCAA Regional for the first time in school history.
Several of the highlights were that the Terps set single-season school records for wins (48), home runs (137), runs scored (572), hits (683), doubles (143) and RBIs (534).
On Monday, the Huskies led 9-1 after 4 innings, but Troy Schreffler and Kevin Keister had RBI singles in a four-run fifth as Maryland took advantage of an error by Huskies’ right fielder Casey Dana to score 3 unearned runs. Then it was 10-8 in the eighth inning.
