After 4 seasons at Nebraska, Adrian Martinez entered the transfer portal to examine his options. He eventually left Lincoln and made the decision to transfer to Kansas State for 2022.

During his time with the Huskers, Martinez compiled 80 offensive touchdowns and was the team’s leading passer and rusher during the 2021 season. Despite his production, it never paid off in the win column with Nebraska’s best season during Martinez’s tenure a 5-7 season in 2019.

In a conversation for College Sports on SiriusXM, Martinez discussed his decision to join the Wildcats and admitted there are some “narratives” he feels he is fighting against. One of those narratives is the fact that his teams have never been to a bowl game or had a winning season.

“There are narratives I’m fighting against,” Martinez explained. “I hadn’t been to a bowl game and I haven’t had a winning season. Football’s a team sport, but I play QB, and often times you get associated with those kinds of things, and you know I want to win. I want to go play in a bowl game and win a bowl game.”

Martinez also feels Kansas State has an opportunity to do that in 2022 with the system in place and his own personal progression:

“That’s another reason why I came here,” said Martinez. “I feel like we have a great opportunity to win…I feel confident in this system and the progressions I’ve made that I’ll be able to take that next step.”

While Martinez has left the Huskers, Nebraska has also revamped the offensive staff and the player roster for a pivotal Year 5 under Scott Frost. Time will tell if Martinez’s decision pays off.
