Father of Wisconsin WR Quintez Cephus dies after being shot in convenience store

The father of Wisconsin wide receiver Quintez Cephus was shot in the head at a convenience store on Monday in Macon, Ga.
Andre Jamar Taylor was pronounced dead on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Macon Telegraph. Taylor was 39.
Police said that 40-year-old man Calvin Stapleton turned himself in hours after the “execution-style shooting,” which was allegedly the result of an argument as Taylor was walking away.
Wisconsin officials said that Cephus and receivers coach Ted Gilmore flew to Georgia to be with Taylor.
“I don’t want to talk too much about it because I don’t really know too much about the situation,” Wisconsin tailback Chris James told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel after practice Tuesday. “(But) he knows that we all are praying. … I told him, we’re sending prayers your way and just hope that everything comes out fine. He knows we are all here for him.”
Cephus flashed potential as a freshman in 2016. He had four catches for 94 yards, including a 57-yard grab against Iowa.
The sophomore is a candidate to replace Rob Wheelwright as one of the starting receiver positions opposite of Jazz Peavy.
